Windows Slide Show

Microsoft ® Windows ® slide show is an extremely easy way to view pictures on any PC. What's more it's a standard part of Microsoft ® Windows ® XP, so it's free! It's also much easier to set up than slide shows using many presentation software packages.

1. Open up Windows ® Explorer - by clicking on Start and My Computer or Start and My Documents or Start and My Pictures.

2. Navigate to the folder where the pictures you want to view are stored - Windows Slide Show produces a slide show of all the pictures in a single folder. There isn't anything you can do to alter this, so you need to make sure you've got all the right pictures (and no others) in one place. That's easy - just use PhotoFrame Manager to put together a collection of photos and export them to a folder for viewing.

3. Show the task pane - that's the left hand part of the Explorer window that has a list of common tasks tailored for the folder / files you're viewing. The task pane disappears if you have one of the other explorer bars showing (normally Search, Favourites, History or Folders) so click the X to the right of the explorer bar title to close it and make the task pane appear.

4. Click on View as slide show - (under Picture Tasks) to start the slide show. If Picture Tasks doesn't appear in the list, that's because Windows ® hasn't spotted that the folder contains pictures, so you'll need to tell it. Click on the View menu and then Customize This Folder. Then, from the drop dow list headed Use this folder type as a template, select Pictures (best for many files) or Photo Album (best for fewer files) and click OK.

5. Use the control bar in the top right corner of the screen to control your slide show - it has continue, pause, previous and next buttons on it as well as a close button the stop the slide show (or just press Esc). If the control bar has vanished, just move the mouse around and it will reappear.
